The first succesful AI image?

Recently I was thinking of how to design my InstaLog page, so I came up with the idea of an anime character in the background with flowing hair or something similar, you know, like what you would see in a Chobits or Clannad artwork, with a space to have text and thumbanils. So I used pinterest to find some images and I found this:

Now when you look at this image from just a quick glance it seems... perfectly normal, it seems like what someone would've drawn in the early 2000s, which is what I thought. And it checked all my boxes for what I wanted as my background image.

So usually after I find my desired image, I tend to reverse image search it to find the better quality image, because most of the images on Pinterest are compressed/low quality and I just didn't want to link to pinterest because they have a tendency to just delete images for some reason.

So I searched and could not find anything, it always led me back to Pinterest or Soundcloud. "That's odd", I told myself. I used every single image search tool I knew of, Google, Yandex, TinEye, Bing, everything. I could not find anything on the origins of this image. I decided to go over again incase I missed anything, but this time around I saw a reddit thread asking if this image was AI generated, plus another image with the same character.

At first I didn't want to believe the post, because a lot of people love to just throw around AI without actually doing deep research. So I used fmhy.net to find reverse image search tools, but I had no luck myself..

I went back to the post and read all the outliers of AI that the poster had mentioned, and I was just surprised and disappointed, I actually fell for AI this time around. It's a pity though, it seems like a such a good image to use but it's unfortunate, this is the world we live in now it seems.. 😞
